Professor D Ravinder Congratulated the Urdu department for organizing this wonderful
international Urdu seminar. He welcomed the guests and said that human values
are the basic need of the present time and Urdu poetry and literature has been
presenting its message on this subject in every era. Indian society needs to be
aligned with moral and human values and equality. When any country and nation
are aligned with values, there is peace, tolerance, harmony, patience and
all-round development. The faculty of the Urdu department have done an
important and key task by choosing such a topic for a one-day international
seminar. Contemporary and global society needs such titles. Urdu Department of
Osmania University does not have permanent lecturers to conduct
extra-curricular activities and conduct seminars but this work was done by the part-time
teachers of Urdu Department and after a
long time in Urdu Department, a wonderful one-day international seminar is
being organized under the auspices of Urdu Department. Professor D Ravinder the
vice chancellor of the university congratulated Professor C Ganesh the head of
Urdu department, Dr Anjum Unnisa Zeba and Dr Mushtaq the general convenors of
seminar and he said that they have set an example by organizing an
international seminar. For organizing an international seminar, lot of management skills are needed, a lot of money
is also needed, but when the ambitions of the faculty are high the goals become
easier, while inaugurating the seminar Vice-Chancellor Professor D. Ravinder
said in his address that Osmania University is the best example of the academic excellence,
which was established in 1917 for promotion of higher education and research. Until
1947, the medium of instruction of this university was Urdu and medicine, law,
engineering and other sciences were also taught in Urdu. Today, the university
is popular at the national and international level due to its high standards. Presently
there are no permanent faculty in the Urdu department . but very soon in the
light of the guidelines of the government, permanent appointments will be made in
the university including the department of Urdu. Professor D. Ravinder
congratulated the Urdu department that despite the absence of permanent
teachers, the department is moving in the direction of development and today
the young teachers of this department are organizing this international Urdu
seminar.
Professor D. Ravinder referred to the decree of the
founder of the university, Mir Osman Ali Khan the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, under which the university was
established. He said that this decree would be translated and displayed outside
the Arts College. He said that since some time, the foundation day of Osmania
University is also being celebrated in which full respect is paid to the
founder of the university. Prof. D Ravinder welcomed the foreign guests from
Uzbekistan and Egypt and expressed his gratitude to Prof. Khawaja Ikram Uddin

Prof. SA Shakur, former head of the department of
Urdu, Osmania University, while addressing the opening session of the seminar,
said that the topic chosen for this seminar is needed at the global and
national level as well. He said that values have changed today and we have to
change the atmosphere of hatred with love, we have to uphold human values. The
lesson of which we get from Urdu poetry and literature. He said that the
government of Telangana has given the status of second official language to
Urdu. The beginning of education in Osmania University was in Urdu language.
Once again the Urdu identity of this university must be restored. He said that
at one time there were 16 permanent teachers in the Urdu department. After
retirement of these teachers there is
not a single permanent lecturer. To which the university authorities and the
government need to pay attention in order to restore the greatness of the Urdu
department.
The special guest of the international seminar, Prof.
Yusuf Amir, former vice chancellor of Jamia Al-Azhar, addressed the inaugural
session of international seminar and said that I have come to my home. Egypt
and India are the confluence of ancient civilizations and cultures. Al-Azhar
University is the oldest university in the world, established before 1080 A.D.
Here, research is done in religious and contemporary sciences. Apart from PG
and PhD, translation institute is also established. Urdu language is made from
the soil of India. It is spoken and understood all over the world. Urdu
language is spreading Indian civilization and culture to the whole world. I
have the heritage of India. The national culture of great India lies in it. All
sections of the country have participated in building a common culture.
Language is not a religion but language protects religion. All religions serve
humanity. In Urdu, Wali Nazir and others have interpreted human values through
their poetry. Nazeer's poem Aadmi Nama is a manifesto of humanism and a book of
ethics. One can benefit from Nazir's Namaa of Humanity in every time and place.
In the world, human beings have the status of Ashraf-ul-Makhluqat. A teacher is
like a father. Urdu language and literature have rich human values but Urdu
language learners are decreasing. Urdu should be connected with the people.
Urdu language and literature is being translated into Uzbek language. Deccani
is being taught. Urdu dictionary is being prepared. The work of research in
this language is going on at the international level. Dr. Moyeed Javed, the
former head of the Urdu Department, addressed the session and emphasized on
using the values found in Urdu poetry and literature in practical life and said
that Urdu poetry portrays human values.
Another
special guest from Uzbekistan, Dr. Sirajuddin Noor Matuf, said that Urdu is
taught in the Urdu department of Tashkent. Indian teachers come here to teach
Urdu. Professor Qamar Rayees has promoted Urdu here. He said that Urdu poetry
and literature, especially Urdu proverbs, also have human values. He said that
the capital of human values present in Urdu language should be conveyed to the
new generation. The person behind the concept of holding this international
seminar was Prof. Khawaja Muhammad Ikramuddin from Jawaharlal Nehru University
New Delhi, who continuously maintained his relationship with Osmania University
as a means of improving the Urdu relations between North and South. Recently he
delivered the Begum Memorial Lecture at Urdu Department. He delivered the
keynote address of this one-day international Urdu seminar. In his speech, he
said that a person who learned Urdu will understand India. Language has nothing
to do with livelihood. Noted Urdu poet Firaq has talked about the mixed culture.
Caravans of nations came to the land of India and India was formed. Today there
is a need to revive the lost humanity. Tolerance is to be brought. Man is made
of clay. We should bring human values and equality in our lives. He presented many
famous Urdu couplets describing the humanity and equality present in Urdu
literature. Prof Khawja Ikramuddin said the noted Urdu poet Jafar Zatli had said that man
has started to fear man, how far has it come? Nazir's poem Aadmi Nama teaches
humanity . There is man everywhere, there is no humanity. Here man is the
victim of man. Humanity is missing there.
Professor Khawaja Ikramuddin presented many interesting Urdu
couplets from the poetic treasure of Urdu poetry. He also listened to poems
from the students of Osmania University and highlighted human values and
equality. Prof. Khawaja Ikramuddin's keynote address was well received by the
audience.
The
presidential speech of the seminar was presented by Prof. C. Ganesh, Principal
Arts College and head of Urdu Department and said that I am proud to say that
Urdu Department is leading in extra-curricular activities. Under the leadership
and guidance of Professor SA Shakur the former head of the department, the work
of the Urdu department is being carried out. Today's international seminar is
being held without any budget approval, which shows the determination and
courage of the current faculty of the Urdu department. The success of the
seminar is a joint effort of all. He termed the topic of the seminar as the
need of the hour and said that human values are being trampled and we have to
generalize better human values and equality in the society to form a peaceful
society. We have to become human first and then propagate humanity. Students
from all over the world are studying in Osmania University. Guests from abroad
and Prof. Khawaja Ikram sir have come to participate in this international
seminar organized in the Urdu department of this internationally renowned
university. We welcome and thank the guests for visiting this mother of knowledge and
expressing their valuable views on an important subject. At the end of the
inaugural session, the guests were presented with mementoes and shawled and garlanded.
Urdu department faculty and the convenor of the seminar Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed
presented vote of thank in the inaugural session and expressed his gratitude to
all the guests who participated in the inaugural session and to the research
